Superhero “deconstructions” like the Boys and Marshall Law like to portray superheroes as aligning with right-wing evangelical Christianity, even though it’s very rare for superheroes to be notably religious, and pretty much never Protestant. Of the practicing religious superheroes I can think of, most are Jewish, Muslim, some type of pagan, or a god themselves, and those who are Christian, like Daredevil, tend to profess what can only be called “Hyper-Gothic Catholicism.” The big exception is the independent Bibleman video series, and that’s strikingly outside of the mainstream. It feels more like a criticism of America than the genre.

you know those “deconstructions” are using the genre to critique America and its power structures/celebrity fascinations right

if you compare them to something like Watchmen it’s very apparent, because the problem there IS the heroes, and what they’re capable of and how it can be manipulated

with something like BNHA or even Attack on Titan it’s looking at the genre’s expectation of teen characters- a branch from the teen hero - and going these kids DIE, you’re sending KIDS TO DIE - which allies it more with something like Battle Royale than [insert war movie here]

Tiger and Bunny looks very closely at sponsorship and the commodification of superheroes in a way thats clearly meant to look at sportspeople

sometimes when you look at a thing and go - hang on that’s backwards you need to turn your argument around, that’s its not superheroes wouldn’t be evangelical right wingers, that’s so American, but that the heroes are a way to criticise the right wing - if a guy who splats dissenters is a the darling of the Christian right - the Christian right is the thing being pointed at
